Linda Hutchins Echo Chamber

at littlebigspace, Albany, CA, April 6 - May 4, 2013

Opening Saturday, April 6, 3 to 6 pm

I want to capture the tug of war between focus and distraction, to make my mental state—my consciousness—apparent. When the results become too regular or easy, I look for ways to up the ante. This is part of what leads me to draw with both hands. — Linda Hutchins January 2013

littlebigspace is pleased to present the work of Portland-based artist Linda Hutchins, with an opening reception Saturday, April 6, from 3 to 6 pm.

Hutchins' unique approach to the act of drawing is startlingly direct—her fingers become tools, communicating movement and intention. The resulting compositions can be elegant, ghostlike apparitions, or gray-silver, rhythmic concentrations of energy made visible. She combines visual mark making with the inherent physicality of a musician or dancer.

Hutchins earned her BFA in Drawing from Pacific Northwest College of Art and has received fellowships and grants from the Oregon Arts Commission, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, and The Ford Family Foundation, as well as the Jurors' Prize in the Tacoma Art Museum's 2009 Northwest Biennial. Her work has been exhibited internationally, reviewed in Art in America, and appeared on the cover of American Craft. Before attending art school, Hutchins received a BSE in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, and wrote operating system software for Intel Corporation.

littlebigspace is an alternative space for the visual arts in Albany, California, which features work by artists from various locales.
